Are you ready to begin an open data voyage with NASA? The NASA
Datanauts initiative has welcomed an eclectic group of almost 250 people representing a variety of backgrounds, and we want YOU to join us on our upcoming journey! We’re recruiting 50
new Datanauts for the Fall 2018 class; could you be one of them?
We’re inviting students and subject matter experts, developers and hardware hackers, makers and artists, designers and entrepreneurs, to apply to be part of the initiative. Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced, there's a place for you in the Datanauts community. The more diverse the Datanauts class, both in terms of background and skill level, the more stories we'll have to share about new ways to explore data.
The application is open now until June 17, 2018 at 11:59pm PDT.APPLY TODAY TO BE A DATANAUT!
What is a Datanaut?
NASA Datanauts is an international community of people interested in learning how to develop data science skills through access to and use of NASA’s open data. You do not have to be a hardcore coder to be a Datanaut (although those are welcome too)! Borne out of NASA’s Women in Data initiative, the Datanaut program is open to anyone interested in technology, data science, earth and planetary science, and space. Our activities encourage collaboration between members, skill-sharing, and the merging of ideas.
Receive guidance on accessing and incorporating NASA data into projects
Learn new skills or refine existing ones by pursuing a variety of learning tracks led by NASA and other experts, such as an introduction to R and GitHub
Gain access to a community of like-minded problem solvers, creators, and people passionate about building skills and sharing knowledge
Attend or organize virtual and live community events to showcase results or collaborate on projects
Engage in dialogue with experts on data science, technology, earth and planetary science,
space, and other related fields such as social science, gaming, media,
arts, and fashion
Have the opportunity to organize and present self-driven, collaborative projects and engage in NASA-created data projects
Ultimately, Datanauts are given access to tools and an environment that facilitates collaboration where they can can work together on ideas and projects that leverage NASA data.
Who is a Datanaut?
Datanauts come from a wide range of life stages, career fields, and levels of technical expertise. Past Datanauts have included designers, developers, data scientists, students, storytellers, nonprofit managers, community organizers, entrepreneurs, and people transitioning between careers. We believe that solutions to today’s problems require input from people from a variety of backgrounds, and that problem-solvers need a supportive environment where they can develop new ideas and learn and test new skills.
